The Chatfield Community Garden at St. Gregory’s

The Chatfield Community Garden at St. Gregory’s is open to all in our area, not just members of the church. The many green thumbs who tend the garden are committed to growing organic produce.

For a reasonable fee to cover water and other expenses, people can lease a plot for the summer. Some are 10 by 15 feet, while a few are smaller. We have some raised beds for those with limited mobility.

We also have a couple of plots set aside to raise vegetables for the local food bank. Some donate surplus from their own plots or even donate the entire crop from one of their plots to provide fresh product to families in our neighborhood.

Last year we donated over 3,000 pounds of fresh organic vegetables to the local food bank!

It is important to us that everyone involved with the community garden pitches in to help with the food bank plots. That can mean pulling some weeds or giving the plots a quick water—any amount of attention helps!

During the growing season, we meet in the early evening on Monday to harvest food for the food bank. All are welcome to join in the fun! We also ask that members participate whenever possible in our workdays to maintain the common areas and keep the grounds looking beautiful for visitors.

In addition to our individual plots, we also have a few plots to grow flowers for use in our worship services that are later delivered to those who cannot leave their homes. Anyone who would like to assist with flowery growth or delivery is welcome and encouraged to do so.

There is no fee to help with either the community vegetable plots or the flower plots, so if you like to garden but don’t want to commit to the fee, this is a great way to get your hands in the soil!

All gardeners are asked to sign our Community Covenant. For more information, email Debbie or Kat.
